Radio Lot Beer Release
October 30, 2020
Mill Whistle Brewing, Carteret County’s first craft brewery, has created a new beer for 34° North Restaurant. Radio Lot, an imperial stout, 9.2% ABV, was aged in a barrel that was once used for the Maker’s Mark Private Select Bourbon at the Beaufort Hotel.
Join us on Friday, October 30 for the official beer release. Enter your best guess for Beaufort’s radio station call letters and you may win a $50 gift certificate to 34° North Restaurant. Drawing at 8 pm. No purchase necessary.
The story behind the beer: Radio Lot is named after an open lot on Ocean Street where Beaufort kids played baseball in the 60s and 70s. The lot shared the grounds with a radio tower for a Beaufort Radio station and therefore the kids called this the “Radio Lot.” Those kids are adults today, and many of them live in Beaufort.
The DJ had a reputation for falling asleep regularly. When a record ended and the station became silent, the kids would stop playing long enough to wake up the DJ, and then return to their game. The label features a newspaper photo of one of these kids playing baseball during the Radio Lot era.
34° North Restaurant is located at the Beaufort Hotel, 2440 Lennoxville Road, Beaufort, NC 28516.
